for sarah!

July 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

So an old friend of mine from high school and his beautiful wifey are expecting a little boy in August. Which coincidentally is named August :-) and they have this wonderful blog called The Adventures of Baby Skittle.

It is in my opinion an very inventive way of cataloging ones pregnancy and childbirth and the other lovely day to day happenings. Lately she has been having a bit of anxiety with trying to grasp the reality of their impending parenthood that I chose to “cheer her up” so to speak. I think that it is a duty of mine to convince first time mothers that it is “really not that bad” and heck it could actually be fun bringing a child into this world. I am not by all means an expert when it comes to having children. I think that the duggar woman has me beat by a long shot, but at least I offer a non-judgemental even entertaining approach to explaining pregnancy & childbirth to other mommy’s out there. :-)

Let’s face it: being pregnant is hard enough, why on earth would you listen to someone telling you that you are doing it wrong? (my thoughts exactly.)

Alright I am off my soap box now, really.

I am here to give a wonderful soon to mommy a good chuckle that will hopefully give her a better outlook on things!

Last summer while I was very, very pregnant with “baby in the belly” or now we call him Julian I had made a deal with Lyall that if “the buzz” was having their annual contest I was going to join. What contest you ask? Oh it was “the 3rd annual rod ryan pregnant bikini contest.” Yes that is exactly what it was- about two dozen pregnant girls competing in silly games and a bikini contest for about 3,000 worth of prizes. Sounds to offensive to most but actually it was thought up by the morning show after Britney Spears posed for the cover of Harpers Bazzar a la Demi Moore with her first child.

Think of your opinions about it, and keep it to yourself. I did it for me and no one else. It was quite tedious and I spent alot of time primping for this contest. The contest was divided into three parts. The speed diaper change, diaper toss and the bikini contest. Over all I did pretty well, though I didn’t win I had fun which was kind of the whole point in joining the silly thing to begin with. That and to have a really fun story to tell Julian when he’s older.

Here are a few pictures of from the contest and you can see the rest of them on the link above.

Sarah, I hope this makes being prego much more entertaining for you! :-)

i am tired…

July 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

That pretty much sums it up.

It has been quite busy around here and I sometimes don’t know my rear from a hole in the ground.

eh? It’s like that.

I was talking to my yoga instructor, Kate and we were always saying that we are tired ALL THE TIME. We did come to a conclusion that we have been both tired since our first children were born. (haha!) But that’s how it goes, you have kids you automatically become scatterbrained and just completely nutty. But you can choose to be annoyed by it or just go with it. I personally just go with it. It makes things funnier that way. You could go on and on about what you can and can’t do but that doesn’t get you anywhere. I have a really good way of dealing with the hard days. Here is a list, compiled not in any particular order.

  • lots of coffee & tea
  • chocolate bar’s “chocolotta” (iced hot cocco)
  • my zune & it’s contents
  • french fries from chick-fil-a
  • lyall calling me to just to say “hi”
  • funny emails
  • my sweet camera
  • ellie the wonder dog
  • actually seeing a music video.

This list could go on for ages but you get the jist of things. Well off to the Tuesday/ Thursday ritual of “yoga in the hood.”

this time last year…

June 26, 2008 · 3 Comments

… I was 23 weeks pregnant. I can not believe how time has flown by so quickly. Julian is almost 9 months!!! It didn’t seem that long ago that he was this little bitty thing that barely made a sound and now he makes his presence known to all. That actually does not surprise me, I knew that day was going to come. But sometimes I miss my little squishy baby that didn’t squirm when he nursed and that didn’t make my arm hurt after carrying him around for more than 15 minutes. I could sit here and go on and on about how it was much easier a few months back, but it would make me look a little wussy.

I am actually excited at the stage that he is in right now. Julian can pull himself up to standing without any form of hesitation and has been for about a month now. It’s just amazing how strong he has gotten. Lyall and I got him one of those exer-saucers from the baby store a few weeks back and he has spent almost everyday in there making all sorts of noise. It’s pretty awesome to see how he reacts to everything around him and just the personality that he is developing. I can’t wait to see what he does next!

(Here is a little before after from this time last year and now. Enjoy! :-) )
