Baby Steps Playgroup!

April 8, 2009 · 2 Comments

A few weeks back Julian and I met up with our play group Baby Steps for some good old fashion fun at Herman Park. Though Julian and I didn’t have the time to ride the train we did spend some time at the swings. I swear that I had more photos of Courtney’s daughter, Helena & Jennifer’s son Cameron.

Nevertheless here there are. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Patch!

October 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In getting into the spirit of fall, the boys and I decided to visit a pumpkin patch!

I have always wanted to take them to one, but never had an opportunity to do so until now. For as long as I can remember there has always been a Pumpkin Patch at St. Lukes Methodist Church on Westheimer. This past Sunday afternoon I decided to pack the kiddos up and make the trek “inside the loop” to find us some pumpkins!

Riley was so excited that when he jumped out the car he almost face planted right on the asphalt! All I hear is, “Aw, Man! I fell.”

Crazy kid.

We got to the pumpkins and of course Riley was like all epileptic and running around trying to find “the coolest one” and I had put Julian down next to one and he just stood there confused. Basically what I had imagined. Like the good mother that I like to think I am I took pictures, lots of them.

I had Riley pick out two small pumpkins and two mini ones. The price for their BIG ONES were just threw the roof. (sorry I just can’t picture spending $18.00 on a pumpkin that I can buy at HEB for $6.00) You would think Riley would be upset about not getting the GIANT pumpkin, but the child that he is he was just excited to be able to use a wagon. Score!

Here are some of the pictures from the pumpkin patch.

(Just an F.Y.I. I do like to dress my kids alike, I can’t help it.)

what happened monday morning.

August 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This morning was like any other morning, after the mid morning lull with the kiddos I had put Julian down for his nap. Though this morning he was a bit cantankerous to begin with so his nap was not going to come easy. Oh man. I put him in his crib hoping that he would complain for about 10 minutes and get bored and go to sleep. (Something that he does all the time.) Oh, no today he decided to complain for double the time he normally does. About that time Lyall calls us and wants to know what we are doing for lunch. I had told him that nothing was in the que and off we go to lunch at Chick-fil-A. I had told Riley to go and get ready since daddy was on his way and we only had a few minutes before Lyall got here.

I had gone into Julian’s room to get him ready. I found him in his crib trying to grab toys of the window sill, which is nothing out of the norm for him but I had taken a double take. The child was COMPLETELY NAKED! I mean birthday suit naked. Mind you he was in a full romper type outfit and a cloth diaper. (a kushies aio) For some reason the child had some how taken his outfit off as well as his diaper! I honestly don’t know how long he was like that but it was definitely one of the funniest things that I have ever seen from this child.

I only know that, it will also not be the last time I see something like this from Julian. I was laughing so hard that I had to call Lyall who was only about 5 minutes away to tell him what had happened. He had no idea what to say but, “that’s freaking hilarious, Kim.”

I can’t wait what this child will do next. Really.

10 months already?

August 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Yesterday marked 10 months for our little man, Julian!!!

He not even close to being little anymore!

We went to the doctor on 7/25/08 and he was measured at an astonishing 29 inches! Two weeks before then, Lyall and I were wondering how long he really was so we put him up against the good ole’ tape measure and he was at 27 inches! I mean really at the rate this kid is growing he’ll be taller than me by the time he’s 8! (Not that it’s saying much for me, I’m 5′1.) But it’s really freaking me out. The whole time on our road trip in Colorado people at restaurants kept asking me if we needed a kids menu. Though his weight is at about 18.5 lbs which is a bit small for his length and age we are convinced that he’s going to be just like Lyall. Tall & skinny.

Poor kid. Ever tried looking for a pair of 28/34’s at The Gap? Apparently that is the size the Lyall was at when he entered the Air Force.

Anyway, our super awesome doctor said that he is doing EXTREMELY well. Motor skills are all lined up and has stated that he should be getting around to doing things on his own a bit earlier because he follows Riley around everywhere. Which is somewhat of a slight threat to me, because he’s already a handful and he can’t even walk yet!!!

I will post more about the progress of Julian & the quest for walking in the next few entires. It should be fun!

for sarah!

July 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

So an old friend of mine from high school and his beautiful wifey are expecting a little boy in August. Which coincidentally is named August :-) and they have this wonderful blog called The Adventures of Baby Skittle.

It is in my opinion an very inventive way of cataloging ones pregnancy and childbirth and the other lovely day to day happenings. Lately she has been having a bit of anxiety with trying to grasp the reality of their impending parenthood that I chose to “cheer her up” so to speak. I think that it is a duty of mine to convince first time mothers that it is “really not that bad” and heck it could actually be fun bringing a child into this world. I am not by all means an expert when it comes to having children. I think that the duggar woman has me beat by a long shot, but at least I offer a non-judgemental even entertaining approach to explaining pregnancy & childbirth to other mommy’s out there. :-)

Let’s face it: being pregnant is hard enough, why on earth would you listen to someone telling you that you are doing it wrong? (my thoughts exactly.)

Alright I am off my soap box now, really.

I am here to give a wonderful soon to mommy a good chuckle that will hopefully give her a better outlook on things!

Last summer while I was very, very pregnant with “baby in the belly” or now we call him Julian I had made a deal with Lyall that if “the buzz” was having their annual contest I was going to join. What contest you ask? Oh it was “the 3rd annual rod ryan pregnant bikini contest.” Yes that is exactly what it was- about two dozen pregnant girls competing in silly games and a bikini contest for about 3,000 worth of prizes. Sounds to offensive to most but actually it was thought up by the morning show after Britney Spears posed for the cover of Harpers Bazzar a la Demi Moore with her first child.

Think of your opinions about it, and keep it to yourself. I did it for me and no one else. It was quite tedious and I spent alot of time primping for this contest. The contest was divided into three parts. The speed diaper change, diaper toss and the bikini contest. Over all I did pretty well, though I didn’t win I had fun which was kind of the whole point in joining the silly thing to begin with. That and to have a really fun story to tell Julian when he’s older.

Here are a few pictures of from the contest and you can see the rest of them on the link above.

Sarah, I hope this makes being prego much more entertaining for you! :-)

“yoga in the hood”

July 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have started going to Mommy & Me Yoga.

Yes that’s not a typo. I got tired of being cooped up in the house all day and the thought of a “stroller fit” class creeps me out to no end so yoga we went.

It sounded really cheeseball at first, but it actually is alot fun. It is our third week of classes twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Julian absolutely loves it. It is a bit free form and the teacher is awesome. I am going to post more pictures this week of the class since Kate the instructor said she is more than willing to take photos during class. (Yippie!) I do have a few from this past Tuesday’s class of Julian and his new friend Annabelle.

Julian seems to be the oldest one in the class and yet according to most , “so well behaved.” (sigh) He can get a bit vocal (ie LOUD) and gets into the other kids toys but for the most part he’s having fun. I have notice more and more as the days go by he is getting to be alot like me. In the sense of “never met a stranger.” He is so social and peppy, he could give a cheerleader a run for her money!
